White House border czar Tom Homan has strongly defended the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota, pushing back against critics who claim federal agents are unfairly targeting the state’s Somali community based on ethnicity rather than legal status.
In a December 7 interview with CNN, Homan addressed mounting concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in areas with significant Somali populations, emphasizing that enforcement actions are strictly focused on individuals who have entered the country illegally or committed serious crimes.
“There’s a large illegal Somali community there… if you’re a U.S. citizen, you will have nothing to fear. We’re looking for criminal aliens. And, also, if you’re a resident alien, you have a felony conviction, by statute, you could be set up for deportation,” Homan stated during the interview.
The border czar categorically dismissed allegations that ICE agents are conducting stops or arrests based solely on appearance, rejecting claims that people are being targeted simply because they “look Somali.” His comments come as immigration enforcement has intensified across the country, with Minnesota’s large Somali-American community finding itself at the center of national attention.
