Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre continues to command solid backing from his party’s base, new polling data reveals, as he prepares to face a crucial leadership review in early 2026.
The latest survey from Abacus Data, conducted on November 30, shows that 66 percent of Conservative voters would vote to retain Poilievre as their leader, while 22 percent favor replacing him. The remaining respondents remained undecided on the leadership question.
When focusing exclusively on decided Conservative voters, Poilievre’s support climbs even higher, reaching 75 percent – a figure that mirrors the backing he enjoyed when first elected to lead the party.
David Coletto, founder and CEO of Abacus Data, characterized the results as indicative of sustained confidence within Conservative ranks, though he noted that support isn’t universal across the party base.
“This 42-point margin suggests that Poilievre largely retains the confidence of his party’s base, although not universally,” Coletto stated in the polling release.
The timing of these findings proves significant as Poilievre approaches what could be a defining moment in his political career. Leadership reviews serve as critical benchmarks for party leaders, offering members the opportunity to formally express their confidence – or lack thereof – in their chosen standard-bearer.
For Poilievre, who has positioned himself as a populist conservative voice challenging the Liberal government’s policies, these numbers suggest his message continues to resonate with the party faithful. The polling data indicates he has successfully maintained the coalition that originally brought him to power, despite the inevitable challenges that come with leading a major political party.
The survey results also highlight the polarized nature of contemporary Conservative politics, with a clear majority backing Poilievre’s leadership approach while a notable minority seeks change at the top of the party hierarchy.
As the 2026 leadership review approaches, these polling numbers provide Poilievre with a foundation of support that should serve him well in any internal party challenges. However, political fortunes can shift rapidly, and maintaining this level of backing will require continued effort to unite different factions within the Conservative movement.
